The Nottaway Newts

The Nottaway Swim Team is open to all ages, through senior year of high school, whose families are Nottaway Swim Club Members (membership must be paid in full prior to registering for swim team). New or young swimmers are evaluated throughout the first few weeks of practice to determine skill level for placement on the swim team. The basic requirement is that a swimmer is able to swim the length of the pool without assistance in a reasonable period of time. The season begins in May and ends just before the July 4th holiday.

Practices

Practices begin in early May in the evenings, Monday through Thursday. Once school dismisses for the summer, practices are held in the mornings, Monday through Friday, before the pool opens to the membership. Evening practices are offered to swimmers unable to attend morning practices. These are available to swimmers 9 years and older. Please contact one of the swim team co-directors if you have a swimmer 8 years or younger who needs evening practices.

Meets

The Newts participate in swim meets against other DeKalb County pools on Tuesday evenings between May 25 and June 22. The County Meet concludes the season just prior to the July 4th holiday. Swimmers may also qualify to swim in the State meet in late July.

Volunteers

The Newts Staff consists of nearly 20 volunteers to coordinate the season, but we depend on hundreds of additional volunteer positions in order for the season to run smoothly. The Newts sponsor a Swim-A-Thon, a concession stand, at least two home meets, and Dinner and a Dip on most Thursday nights.

Fees and Suits

The fee to join the Swim Team is $60 and a 12 pack of soda or water per swimmer due by the first practice. We are able to keep our swim team fees low by conducting fundraising activities throughout the summer. Please be ready to help with and contribute to these activities so that we can keep our summer swimming affordable. If you need to order a suit, please call Missy Bentz at 770-414-4813 in order to have suits prior to the first meet.

Banquet

The Swim Team Banquet is held at the end of the season to congratulate our Newts for their performances and to enjoy an evening of food and fun while our coaches present their awards to the swimmers.

2010 Swim Team Practice Schedule

(All swimmers should begin practices in the appropriate Group according to their age. As required, the coaches will reassign swimmers to a different Group to best accommodate the swimmer's skill level.)

Wednesday practices following a Tuesday meet are from 10:00am - 11:00am for all ages so that the meet ribbons may be awarded, along with donut holes and a special swim. Siblings may not get in any pool prior to opening.
Mon. and Wed. evening practices will be held for swimmers to attend morning practices. 6:30-7:00 ages U6 and U8; 7:00-8:00 for U10 thru U18. Request by parent must be made in order for swimmer to attend.
No practices May 31st (Memorial Day).

2010 Swim Meet Schedule

Arrive at all meets by 5:00pm for warm ups and check in. Swimmers will be scratched from the meet if not checked in prior to 5:15pm. If you are running late call the Coach or Co-Directors. Meets begin at 6:00p and end around 9:00p. Swim meet dates and times are subject to change or cancellation based on weather conditions.
